AW MARINE - STOWE

A couple of months back I was in contact with AW Marine about replacing/repairing my original Stowe 2 instruments, which have all gone on the blink, as opposed to buying a new system.

While mulling over the rather expensive, I thought, proposal, the owner has unfortunately died. The company seems to have suspended operations and has not replied to phone or email.

Does anyone know if another organisation is taking over AW Marine's stock? If I could get a package deal I might go the replacement route.

Thanks

I always suspected that AW Marine must be financed by somebody like Raymarine to make it as difficult and expensive as possible to repair Stowe instruments so everybody would have to invest in new gear. Lets hope the new incumbent whoever they may be can repair Stowe economically and efficiently.

As a Stowe user, I thought the prices ludicrous.

Sorry to hear the chap is dead and I can't blame him for trying. Did contact a couple of times for spares only to decide on an approach that didn't involve buying them. Supply and demand, it's the marketplace.

Perhaps I should have been more specific to your problem, but Brian's operation certainly covers Raymarine, where he is helping me. Maybe a phone call will bring some further light?

Lets hope the new repairers have a more customer friendly attitude. I refused to line AW's pockets with any of my money after being insulted by him.

Exactly my response after the verbally agreed price for a repair to my anemometer almost doubled (without additional work being required) or even a check with me to see if I approved of the higher cost.

I did get the bill reduced but only after much hassle. Sad he has died but hope the new 'Stowe' people will adopt a far different business attitude.

I was very happy with the spares and price, AW Marine have kept my system working this season.

Have you tried "The Repair Centre" in Wareham they used to only repair for the trade but now the have a retail service.

Tinley Electronics have purchased all the Stowe spares and tooling and from AW Marine and are now trading as Stowe Marine.

It is interesting to see the comments about the high prices that AW Marine were charging for the Stowe repairs and Spare parts. I would be interested to know how the people who made these unfounded comments can afford to own and run a boat! Alan Williams made substantial investment to keep the Stowe Spares going of his own back. The returns he got were justified, (especially as he passed away before recouping the full cost of the tooling), and I suspect that by a very far majority most of his customers were better off, (financially), than him!

Re: Very odd...

Seems like these guys have the same attitude as A W Marine (Screw the punters).

Shame as Simrad equipment I have is good and I purchased mine due to the attitude of the simrad agent in RSA and the distastful attitude of the raymarine agent.

Power to the punters (consumers)
