Hi all
Just brought an avon R280 dinghy missing floor and seat, dont want to spend several hundred on an inflatable floor and see some people have been making a floor but seems lots of different thoughts on thickness of floor and materials. Any R280 owners out there have floor plans or dimensiions / thickness of material available please?
Also need a seat whst have previous owners done to solve this as looks like these are no longer available either, does an alternative model fit from anything?
Thanks
Mark

The original floors are in three parts, the rear two being 2ft( in fore and aft length) and the forward one 20in, tapered in the width to fit the inside bow profile. The width is 31 7/8in. Material is 3/8in quality ply. They use double slotted alloy or plastic profiles for jointing and are not fixed in any way apart from being a good fit.

I have been mulling over making something a bit easier to stow. I think something full width (31 7/8th) and 3 to 3ft 6in long would be ok for me as I only require a bit of tread stability in the rear section.
I did think he ideal material might be high density polythene of the type sometimes used for breadboards (and was going to post asking for suggestions as to where to get it cheap/free!) but any stout ply could do the job if suitably treated. Hinging them with lashing would seem to be the cheapest and best solution - so they could be made up of multiple pieces.
However, if you plan to use a large outboard to plane then the full Monty is no doubt the way to go.

If you still have the fabric straps for the yellow plastic seat then a wooden item with folded metal brackets might be the easiest DIY replacement. A seat from a late Redcrest will be no good as it is a different shape, I have doubts about you finding anything else similar, best keep and eye out on E Bay.

Wow! Thankyou very much for the i formation thats great. Can i just check the tapered measurement for the front so its 31 7/8” width then it tapers either side to a 20” horizontal front?
I dont have the straps but will use the lashing idea.
Thanks again this is really helpful.

Not quite, the front section is 20in in length (fore and aft) and is 31 7/8th inch in width (beam)
It is shaped at the front to suit the inside of the bow. I don't have those sizes to hand but it should be simple to trim the material to suit what you have.
