Following on from another thread, I thought I would post this to let everyone going the the area know when the TdP will be there so you can avoid it.

St. Vaast - 7th July
Cherbourg - 8th July
Dielette - 9th July
St. Peter Port - 10th July
Carteret - 11th July
St. Helier - 12th July
Granville - 13th July

Whilst they all seem to manage to squeeze them in (the harbourmaster in Carteret was explaining how he rafts them 10 deep on the visitor pontoon), some of these harbours weren't really designed to take 100 boats at once, and shoreside facilities can't really cope either. Visitors not taking part in the race tend to come under pressure to leave the day before the race fleet arrives.

I'm going to sneak up the French coast while the fleet diverts to Guernsey. :D

Once you know their timetable it's simple to follow them one day behind and always arrive in empty marinas. We once got into Granville the day before they were due, stocked up the boat and wet to hide in Iles Chausey for two days returning after the tour had moved on.

Thank you, very useful to know.

By chance one year we gate crashed the event arriving with the leading boats. We were ushered into a berth and left to our own devices.

Quite a party they had. Glad we weren't expecting a nice quiet evening.

Oops! Having said I planned to avoid the race, I find myself in St Peter Port with the fleet bearing down on me. Nowhere to hide. I'll just have to pretend I'm one of the racing fraternity. :)

I was at Granville on the 3rd July and the harbour master was asking us to move to a different berth to clear the first visitors pontoon. Luckily (for us and possibly him) we were leaving anyway the tide having risen enough for the sill gate to drop. We assumed that it was a large rally arriving that day.

Well. The guys in the harbour dories have done an amazing job squeezing in over 100 race boats, and yet there is still space to raft up outside me. Was it something I said? :o
