What a lovely sight of them working the edge of the incoming tide in the Pyefleet on Sunday (half flood).

They outnumbered all other birds near us and were quite unconcerned by our proximity. Had counted 100 of 'em, then a whole lot more flew in from the NW, so I gave up.

In the winter we counted about 500 avocets off Fingringhoe and there had been 700 the days before - an amazing sight.

In the last week I have seen two or three, adult and juvenile avocets in the spoil pond by the car park at Titchmarsh marina on several occasions, and they seem fairly tame, but one was giving an alarm call when it saw me. There were also about 50 golden plover on the nearby mud flats, and a couple of stoats running across the marina drive, unless they were weasels.
