Hello All,

I'm new on here, although been reading some good posts for a few months.

I have owned 1 boat before, a 14ft open GRP Orkney style with 8hp.

I now have the bug and budget to broaden my horizons. I've just purchased a 2nd hand mooring on the Exe and am now looking for a second hand boat to put on it. I've narrowed my choice down to a 2005 / 2006 Beneteau Antares 650.

All of the boats i have seen come without an auxiliary motor, therefore this will also be on my list to buy. How do i know what sort of auzillary, size, lenght of shaft etc is suitable for the boat and area i am looking at?

Any feedback would be great.

All the best.

I would choose a long shaft outboard of around 10hp. If you are going to be lifting it on and off, go for the tohatsu 9.8 2-stroke. At 27kg it's about the best power to weight you will find. If you are leaving it permanently rigged, go for a four stroke and plumb the fuel into your main tank.
