Any Ideas...... I wish to install an outboard bracket and purchase a suitable sized outboard to provide enough power in the event of the inboard engine failing - The motor boat is 7.6 mtrs and used on the UK East Coast. Any info appreciated

When we tested Auxiliary outboards last in MBM we used an Arvor 25 as one of the test boats. Similar in size to yours it really needed at least 8hp. The best bet is to go with a high thrust model such as those produced by Yamaha, but they are quite heavy so need to be permanently mounted. For something more portable the 2 stroke Tohatsu 9.8 done just as well as the high thrust 8hp but with a weight saving of 18kg. The bigger the better really as far as having some control in big seas or high winds. In the confines of a calm marina you could move your boat around with a 2hp short shaft. Out at sea you need a long shaft and as much HP as you can fit.
