I have a Bayliner 2556 driven by a 454 Mercruiser big block & Bravo 2 OD with a rack and pinion steering. I'm told that normally a good autopilot would use hydraulic steering to handle a pretty heavy boat like mine and a "wheel" pilot would not work well with this type of engine/out drive. I have a Yamaha 9.9 High Thrust auxiliary for my solo trolling and really need an autopilot. Anyone with an experience with such units on this size outboard?
