Auxilary outboard bracket rotten wooden pad - What suitable replacement alternative material?

Hi all,

The marine ply pad on my auxilary outboard bracket is starting to delaminate and looking worse for wear and id like to replace it with a white plastic or nylon that will not only look nicer but also last longer than the wood.

Could anyone advise what material would be suitable to hold the weight & thrust of the engine and also hold up to the UV?

Engine is a 2.3hp Tohatsu 2-stroke and weight is only 10-15kg. Its not mounted on the bracket perminately, emergency use only.

If anyone has done similar and could recommend material and or a supplier/link would be appreciated.

I used a pad of UHDPE of a thickness to allow the outboard to clamp on securely

I was able to buy a nice Teak replacement on my previous boat.

Hardwood Outboard Mount - K J Howells & Son

Looked beautiful, each season clean and oiled with the usual teak products.

The most common brand name for that white "plastic plywood" sheet used by boat builders is King Starboard, so perhaps google that. You need an offcut of course, not a whole sheet. It comes in solid and foam core versions, and you probably want the former

UHDPE as suggested above seems a great idea - online plastic suppliers will cut to size.

Google Nylon sheet or Nylon 66 sheet and you'll get plenty of answers

You could mould your own using a baking tin as a mould if you have a couple of hours to kill. In while GRP with plywood core.
