AUTOPILOTS

Hi,

I have a WP30 which I fitted to my Fisher 25. I needed the bulkhead mounting kit as I don't have a pedestal.

Certainly does the job but there is no display - I've added a HC30 hand control so it now has a display. The clutch has played up a couple of times causing the steering to jam - not fun when entering the marina! Adjusting the belt tension has all but eliminated this problem. I've interfaced it to the chartplotter and the wind instrument so I can steer to compass, waypoint or wind as required.

The initial price of the WP30 is a little less than the Raymarine 4000+, but having paid out for the bulkhead kit (£80 for two long bolts and some plastic bits!!) and the HC30, its ended up more expensive.

In retrospect I'd probably go for the Raymarine offering. This has the added advantage of built-in display and three mounting points on the wheel as opposed to the single one for the WP30 which I woyuld have thought made centering the unit on the wheel much more easy.

PM me if you have any other questions.

Cheers,

Jerry
