I've got a Fletcher Arrowhawk that I mainly use to commute between Yarmouth and Lymington. It's a bit of a dull crossing, so I'm thinking of getting an autopilot.

As far as I can see, the two options that will work are the Raytheon Sportpilot and the Simrad AP12. I like the principle of the Simrad better - it seems a neater installation, but I gather I'll probably have to change the steering cable, and I've heard they're not brilliant in the reliability department.

Any experiences/recommendations with these units?
