At the moment I have an old Raymarine 3000 (20 years old) What is the most cost effective autopilot for a cat (no not SWMBO).

I had an autohelm 3000 on my oceanic, it had been to the med three times with previous owners, and took me and the wife across the atlantic, it finally expired early last year, and i replacedit with a simrad unit, because the later raytheon 3000 was nowhere near as robust, i was not impressed with the self contained fit behind the wheel units, as there were cases where the rollers in the case broke and jammed the pilot solid !!!! not my idea of a good design, apart from which a lot of the time they won't fit a cat owing to the way a lot of cats fit there wheels, i wanted to find a pilot that would be stand alone, belt drive, " easy to disconnect when needed" and simple in design in the end i opted for a simrad, the pilot has controlled the boat surfing at thirteen knots and that is fine with me, as i don't expect to do that type of speed every day......keith
