Those clever chaps at SEA-KIT in Tollesbury have been messing around in the river the last couple of days, sea-trialling another of their autonomous vessels. I haven't been able to row out to get pictures, but did see their Mark 1 vessel up on stands in Tollesbury marina a few weeks back, having some problems with the screws sorted out. I think this is the vessel that did that ground-breaking 22 day surveying trip a couple of years ago, mapping the continental shelf, controlled by marine drone pilots sitting in a shed on Woodup Rd.

Why does it have what looks like an open aft deck for human access?
I wonder if it has to fly an ensign , or on the shed ?
Just trying to figure out why an unscrewed surface vessel is having problems with the screws:confused:

Oh dear them Colregs then ? how does a semi submersible cope with them ?

More to the point, how do we cope with them ?

Guess that it has the accepted Anchor ready to deploy ?

So would guess that a 'Bubble' is ok then ?

Hi Peter, I suspect the unscrewed vessel is the Mark 2, as this one has two whoppers, that are currently dismantled (thus the hollow skegs). I suspect they are universal, as the vessel is apparently able to remain on station regardless of wind or waves, even with only a thruster up the sharp end.

You may well be right but, in that case, what do the letters USV stand for in her name USV Maxlimer? I have to say, I have never heard of an "Unscrewed vessel" or the acronym USV before this thread, so I'm really trying to learn from point zero.

Peter.
