I have an Autohelm 3000 which works fine, the control unit is mounted on a bulkhead within my wheelhouse positioned for ease of operation, distance from steering compass and engine etc. However vibration from the engine is being transmitted to the bulkhead and to the control unit (this does not seem to affect its performance) but my concern is - will the vibration damage or reduce the efficiency of the fluxgate compass within? my boat is a motorsailor and I use the engine a lot.
Has anyone any ideas re anti-vibration mounts for the control unit?

[/ QUOTE ] If you are worried about the effects the vibration might have on magnetised components i think the answer is no because unlike a conventional compass it does not have magnetised components. However the vibration could simply shake the whole thing to pieces if it is severe,

The internal fluxgate compass is gimballed, and so I guess it's possible that prolonged vibration may induce premature wear on the tiny gimbal bearings. An anti-vibration mount wouldn't look very elegant. Had you thought of reducing the bulkhead vibration by making it thicker? If you can get at the back of it, laminating a sheet of hefty plywood to it would help reduce vibrations.
