Autohelm ST7000 \"NO LINK\" displayed.

On turning on my ST7000 Autohelm ST50 Instruments over the w/e I normally input the Codelock code into the GPS Unit which acts as the main security unit.

However, on this occasion inputting the code left the other units still saying input code. I did this and then noticed that the autohelm was displaying NO LINK and then switching to ST 7000. I has not returned to the normal standby mode.

At the moment I have checked all the sea-talk connections and they appear to be fine. Thinking about it over the last two weeks I have had slight errors with the AH unit but now it is permanent.

I know that there is a history of the ST7000 units going so qestions are
1 Is it the ST7000 or the computer unit
2 Who can have a look at it around the southampton area?

Cheers

I don't know the cause of your problem but can thoroughly recommend Datayacht in Lymington as a company that understands Autohelm kit. Don't know whether they travel to Soton but might be worth a call.

An easy rough check is if you have other instruments on the same leg of the Seatalk bus from the computer as the ST7000 and they are working fine, then it is likely to be the ST7000 that is at fault.

No link has been a problem to both ST6000 and ST7000s, and has often been traced to poor soldered connections inside the computer unit, [normally with too much flux added on assembly.
If the wire linkage seems okay and checks out with an ommeter on each of the wires, then it is a back to the factory job and a two week delay. I heard of one skipper in the canaries who resoldered 37 joints, in order to get away across the pond.
If it is in any way some consolation, mine is back at the factory having been inoperative over the August foray West. I had forgotten just how boring it is to hand steer by compass. It came back but took some time for some of the crew to learn the skill.
Hope it works out.
