Gentlemen

Some time ago I had occasion to disconnect the mast head unit of my wind indicator. Although I have the hand book I have been unsuccessful in recommissioning it. The hand book says that you should motor round in a circle twice whilst attempting to keep the pointer on the dial aligned with the mast head vane. I found this almost impossible and it proved entirely ineffective. Am I doing it right? Any advice/experience gratefully received!

Either you have a rogue manual or else you are misreading it.

I have checked several manuals and they all actually say to linearise the windvane you Turn the vessel through two complete circles, making sure that the windvane remains in line with the WIND...

They say nothing about attempting to keep the pointer on the dial aligned with the mast head vane while doing so.

Obviously if you motor around in a circle the vane will follow the wind no problems at all - then just set the pointer on the instrument points in the correct direction as CCScott and the manual says.

Mike, does that mean I wont get so dizzy now while constantly turning in circles looking skyward.
