Help please.
Has anyone linked up an Autohelm ST50 plus to a Yeoman plotter? My ST50 is using Seatalk not NMEA. I've been told it will connect, and function, except that the ST50 will not upload waypoints from the Yeoman (this doesn't bother me) AND I've been told it won't work at all, you need a Seatalk / NMEA interface? Getting frustrated from all the expert advice. I need advice from someone who is using this set up on a boat!
Thanks

I have an Autohelm compass (ST50), windgear and log/sounder (Tridata)(ST60) interfaced togehter using Seatalk and then interfaced with a Navico Tiller Pilot, Furuno GPS and Simrad Handheld DSC radio. A Standard Horizon DCS radio is shortly to be added. All these others want NMEA and I use the Autohelm/Ray Marine/Raytheon Interface Box so that Seatalk is converted to NMEA. It works perfectly and is a DIY wiring job. I don't have a Yeoman but only Autohelm stuff use Seatalk and you will need a conversion which the Inteface does perfectly. The Interface box does have a Seatalk Out and the manual says it will convert NMEA to Seatalk. This clever box will also permit the connection of a PC is thats the way you eventually go. According to the manual, it will convert the following Waypoint data items:

Waypoint Destination No APB, APA, AAM
Waypoint Distance BWC, BWR, RMB, BER, BEC
Waypoint Lat and Long BWC, BWR, BEC, BER (I know this is repeating the above but its what the manual says
Waypoint Capture WPL
Waypoints, last one and next 4 PNATA.

Route WPL

These are the waypoint ones and if any are shown in the Yeoman manual as outputs, this box will convert them to Seatalk.

It does other strings but these are the Waypoint ones

Having read this post, i feel really outdated! What is NEMA?

My main Question,: Is it possiable to plot and list waypoints with a yoeman ploter, or on a gps, then tell the autopilot to follow that course? I have neither a yoeman ploter nor NEMA yet unless my Garmin 120 has it or my new garmin 72 (which i have to collect)

While on this theam ive seen in on-line shops and the compass catalog, a "gps mouse" is that a plug and play stand alone gps for lap top????

I have asimilar set up to this, what you need is a Raymarine Seatalk/NMEA bridge, it converts NMEA to Seatalk and visa versa, it also has RS232 output for lap top pc.

Yes the Raymarine E85001 Seatalk/NMEA/RS232 interface is the solution for this problem. It is very simple to install, three wires to seatalk and 4 to NMEA Input/Output. I always carry one when installing or commissioning new systems as it often solves these kind of problems.

I know this will appear as a blatant plug, but there is a bit more info along with prices on our website.
