We have old Autohelm instruments (probably circa 1980s). They work perfectly well but the a couple of the displays have become very difficult to read. We don't want to spend a fortune on new instruments. Is there a possible display replacement that anyone would recommend? Many thanks.

I left a reasonable amount of time before replying as my comment is little more than rephrasing the original question. I too have auto helm instruments (ST50s) whose displays have possibly passed their best. Obviously second hand head units are available (although oddly expensive) on eBay. Raymarine's current i50 series seem a viable replacement but at >£400 don't tick the "don't want to spend a fortune" box, especially if you choose to buy the pukka flat->round seatalk connectors rather than butchering the wires as is my won't.

If your instruments are, like mine, st50s there would appear to be replacement LCDs from the US for ~£75+£16 postage (search eBay for "st50 lcd replacement") which you may be aware of and are simply asking if anyone has experience of. Sorry I don't but like you would be interested in hearing from anyone who has. It may be worth talking to The Service Centre but I'd take a guess that you'd end up with the same postage and parts charge as eBay but with the service centre's minimum £66 labour charge added on.

With many thanks Laika, yes I think ours probably are ST50s, I'm not at the boat, but that sounds familiar. Everything you have said is really useful, it will help me direct my search as I was feeling bemused to say the least. Thanks again, your time in replying is much appreciated.
