Back in 2010, Davel posted the following helpful information:-

"The ST 4000 Wheel Autopilot comes in two versions - the Mk I and the Mk II.

The Mk I version has a black wheel drive ring. The Raymarine part number is D169 but this appears to be no longer available. The replacement belt is a SYNCHROFLEX AT5/750 and is 9mm wide. Beeline stock this belt and will cut it to the required width so make sure you tell them you want a 9mm belt.

The Mk II version has a grey wheel drive ring. The Raymarine part number is A18083 but this appears to be no longer available. The replacement belt is a Gates PowerGrip 506XL050.

Both belts are available from Beeline Engineering who I have found to be incredibly helpful. They can be contacted on 01908 222999 or at http://www.beeline.co.uk."

Can someone definitively clarify the situation regarding the original AH4000? (Some ambiguity occurs because the AH4000 and the ST4000Mk1 reportedly had black casings - the colour of the casing is sometimes used by vendors to identify the belt). Both types of ST4000 belt appear to be trapezoidal in shape, but the AH4000 pulley looks different to the ST pulleys - it looks to suit a curvilinear belt (which was identified in another posting that I can no longer find).

Some websites try to sell the AT5/750 for the AH4000.

So, my questions are:-
1. Is the AH4000 belt different to the ST4000Mk1 belt (Anyone with a service manual or parts list for the original 4000?)
2. Can a ST4000Mk1 or Mk2 pulley be swapped into a AH4000?

TIA

Bob, AH and ST Mk1 belts are different

Don't know the answer to Q2 but if I were them I would Poke Yoke the parts so they didn't interchange to avoid customers doing just that!

Thanks for that FullCircle.
As for Poke-Yoke; In the sense "make fail-safe or mistake proof", they failed because I'm pretty sure my AH4000 has been fitted with a ST4000Mk1 belt - hence raising the query.

Hopefully someone has the correct manual/part numbers or worked through the issue before

Cheers

Hello Bob,
I have used Beeline Engineering for replacement belts for ST4000 mk1 wheel pilots. I now have a mk2 version that uses an 875mm belt. I contacted Beeline with the reference 506XL050 and they advised this belt is 1285.24mm x 12.5mm? There is a disparity somewhere??

Hi,
The debate continues?
However, my interest has disappeared as I sold the boat concerned two years ago and have archived my data.
Good luck
Bob
