At the moment I use Garmin kit with their Worldmap software on the PC to do all the planning type stuff which I then down load to the navigators etc.
Does anyone out there know :
a) Will the Raymarine / Autohelm recognise the NEMA sentence output from the Garmin software.
b) What if any, software is available that is compatable with the Raymarine / Autohelm.

Patching into the Seatalk is no problem its just the language that I need otherwise SamB is going to spend his holiday tapping in waypoints while the rest of us have a long cool drink in the sun.

Thanks

ChrisP ;-)

a) Garmin uses NMEA whilst Raymarine uses Seatalk. To get the two to talk to each other you need an interface converter. Price is about £150.
b) Raymarine produce their own version of software called Raytech. I seem to remember reading a review of it in some mag about a year ago. It got a pretty good write up.

Details of both should be available on www.raymarine.com

Hi

Davel is pretty much spot on I think, although later Autohelm kit did also have an NMEA capability.
Raytech definitely software from a hardware company as opposed to from a specialist software house if you ask me. But I must declare a vested interest in a competitor system.

I work for Transas, although on the commercial side. Are you a Raytheonite or just a keen / competent NMEA person?

I'd settle for a description of either keen or competant!

I use OziExplorer with a Garmin GPS. I also have a set of Raytheon instruments and looked at their stuff when considering electronic navigation. I still consider myself to be tinkering at the moment.
