I’m planning to upgrade my Westerly Fulmar’s Autohlm system to a ‘built in’ type possibly ST4000, I have bought a tiller ram so I’m now looking to buy the rest, so I think I need
Fluxgate compass, control unit, and course computer (not certain I need the computer)
Any advice, or if you have parts would be appreciated

Be a lot cheaper to fit a Simrad TP32 tiller pilot (£495 from Yachtbits) . A remote control is available for it and it accepts data by nmea 0183 or Simnet (nmea 2k).
It has a built in fluxgate compass and rudder sensor. Suitable for upto 37'.

(Used Raymarine parts such as S1 computer, ST4002 control head, fluxgate compass & rudder pos sensor comes to over £1000)

With respect, your suggestion, whilst cheaper will in no way compare in performance with an 4000ST. Mine is now 21 years old and still performing faultlessly after 39K miles of single-handing.

4000ST plus(+) has course computer built in.Mine is A12008
Some other Raymarine Autopilot control heads need a separate course computer.

If you have no experience of a TP32 then how can you possibly make such a claim?

Just because your St4000 system has worked for 21years doesn't mean other makes aren't or won't be as good or as reliable.

In fact my Cetrek analogue hydraulic system is 35years old and still works, but this is no reason to recommend it over newer products.
