I have an old autohelm (the one with the dial on top) that came with the boat when I bought her (Lloyds take note). The autohelm was never fitted and I intend to do so this summer. However the instructions have been distroyed and I would like to know the details for the distance from the centred tiller to the deck fixing. and the distance up the tiller for the linkage.

If any one can help I would be most greatful, Thanks

Cliff

Cliff,
Reading from my AH2000 manual - and all AH should be the same.

Mounting socket to tiller pin = 589mm/23.2inches.
Rudder stock centre line to tiller pin = 460mm/18inches.

The tiller pin should protrude 12.5mm/0.5inches.

Pushrod extensions can be 25mm, 51mm, 76mm, 102mm, 127mm, and 152mm.

There are also a selection of tiller brackets - above and below - and cantilever mountings.
If you have problems, send me a PM with your email address, and I will send you a jpeg scan of the page that refers.

Mounting socket to centreline.......19" (480 mm) otherwise all measurements as given.

PS it fits on the stbd side

I have an autohelm 1000 with the dial on top and can confirm pin to tiller attachment 19 inches I would also suggest wiring up to a battery first to confirm its working ok Polarity does matter but as stated in the manual no damage will occur if conneted wrong it will just not function. Brown to pos blue to neg is correct setting course is as follows put yacht on correct heading set dial on top to approx same heading as boat compass offer pushrod to tiller and switch on then ajust dial one way or the other until pushrod reaches the tiller pin without moving the tiller from amidships. hope this helps if you need any more info PM me and I will try to help

That is very interesting. Thanks for the info.

As I posted, I have two Autohelms, the oldest came with the boat, and the newer one I brought with me from my last boat.

The latest AH states 23.2inches.....but I have just realised that there is an extension piece on the end of the older AH.

I accept that I stand corrected.
