Hi all,
My Autohelm depth sounder fitted to my S28 has started playing up, its not reading, ive just had it tested and is o.k. they said its also unlikely to be the transducer. Connections seem fine, now struggling any idea's? The problem came on gradually until total failure.

Have you checked for any damage around the transducer?

I know, but just a thought as all other angles have been covered, lateral thinking /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

What did they test? and why did they say transducer unlikely to be a problem? did they actually test it?

PS My depth sounder was going potty last weekend, seeing depths of 0.5 to 3 metres when I knew I was in deep water. I wondered if it was something to do with the fact that I was near the Harry S Truman nuclear aircraft carrier. Hoever, even going back up the Solent in waters I knew well, it was still causing me concern. I'll see what it does this weekend. I may also have a problem, so will be interested to see what feedback you receive

Have you tried Depthtron, it clears the bugs off transducers /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

If your transducer is in-hull (rather than through-hull) it will be sitting in a castor oil filled tube so it could be that the tube is leaking oil in which case there could be air between the transducer and the hull which would definitely distort readings. Get some castor oil from a chemist and top up the tube
