Autohelm bidata problem

The depth reading on my 10 year old bidata is showing zero, with the word "metres" flashing. Log readout is fine. This happened suddenly yesterday. The transducer is glassed into the hull and the wire coming out of it seems to be o.k, but as the whole thing is sealed tight its hard to say.

Can anyone give me any hints as to how I might track down (and solve) the problem?

Many thanks

Last summer I had exactly the same problem. It was caused by condensation water collecting
inside the control unit. It had left a residue on the printed circuit, exactly where the
circuitry for depth measurement is located. The remedy was to clean the printed circuit,
using a toothbrush, with a special cleaning fluid for electronics.
This remedied the fault completely. (There was no problem with the cable nor the transducer.)
My hypothesis is that the residue had caused an offset in the high frequency part of the cricuit.
