I have an ancient one of these which I rather stupidly took apart in the mistaken belief that it wasn't working (turned out to be a poor electrical connection further down the line!)
Has anyone any experience regarding refitting the 'string' which drives the compass? I got it back and working and it took me up the coast without any problem last weekend,but I have a feeling that I didn't get the 'string' back on correctly as later on it stopped working; ram still extends, but the compass rose turns freely and doesn't seem to be providing any feedback.
I can't afford to replace the unit and I prefer the idea of resurrecting it anyway. Any advice gratefully received.
