Can anybody help, I Phoned Raymarine today to see if they could supply a replacement water proof plug (four pin ) for a Old Autohelm 4000 unit, was informed by them that they no longer support that part!

The units work fine, but has been glued on the connection a number of times

It's the ST4000 wheel pilot you have, right? (Not ST4000 tiller pilot). If so, I have a similar problem. The plug that connects to the drive unit has lost its locking collar.

Anyway, I remember talking to Raymarine about another matter (needed to replace the clutch lever) and I remember they said that the control head for the MkII was compatable with the older drive unit.

Hadn't thought this through before but I guess that means the cable from the MkII control head has a compatable plug! Maybe they could supply that?

You could replace both the plug and socket with a MIL spec aircraft part, which are bombproof, but expensive.
Wander down to your local small airfield with a maintenance hangar and buy the Engineer a pint. I bet he has something under the bench which he is saving for a rainy day.
If not try this:

The AH3000 plug is bigger than the ST3000 plug. So I would assume that the AH4000 and the ST4000 have similar problem sized plugs.

When I upgraded from an AH3000 to an ST3000 I had to get an adaptor cable from Raymarine, as none came with the product.

I did have a look online at many electronic outlets - RS, Farnell etc., - but could not find the same "custom" plug that Autohelm produced.

So I think, as has been suggested, you change both plug and socket for something that will fit the control head. As others have said, you don't need anything spectacular or expensive, so long as it is 4 pin, or even 5 or 6 pin.

If you can, fit the 4 pin plug and socket from Raymarine that fits the ST4000.

Thanks for the responses, I would attach a photo of the offending item but need to read the manual all night to achieve, if I can not replace the male connector I will take the option of replacing both ends
Thanks

Hi

I had the same problem with corroded plugs etc with the Autohelm tiller 4000 series. Spent £25 to get the control unit analysed as I found I had enough voltage on the unit but it didn't work, so I thought that the connection was fine. However, closer inspection found that the voltage at the unit was actually about 11.x V (ish) (or maybe less), which actually trips the unit. Tried cleaning it etc, no joy. No replacement plug/socket to be found so retrofitted new ones. Any marine 4 pin will do (obviously better if the socket actually fits the hole you leave when you remove the old one). Bought the replacement from a marine electronics chandlers for about £30 but I guess you can get them cheaper if you look around. Works absolutely fine now. Good luck
