Hi,
Does anyone know whether this unit can be interfaced with a wind transducer? Does it use Sea talk or/NMEA? It is not the ST model just Autohelm 4000 black square unit.
If so, does anyone know about compatability with current wind transdcers?
Thanks
A

If it is similar in design to the AH3000 that I took off my boat and replaced it with an ST3000, then I don't think it will do anything with Seatalk. The ST3000 will access Seatalk - the reason for changing, but with an interface box to talk to NMEA.

I know that an old AH2000 had a socket to accept a windvane, as I had one and also the windvane. So maybe the AH4000 has a socket in the black box that will take a windvane plug - but I would think the windvane for a 2000 or 4000 will be a rare as rocking-horse ... .... .. - (morse for doo-doo)

That looks exactly like the one I had with my old AH2000. It has a 1/4" jack plug on the end to go into the control unit. The AH2000, and I suspect the 4000, is a self contained unit with no NMEA or Seatalk.

...and as I said, rare.

It wouldn't hurt to put up a "Wanted" post. Someone may have one not being used.

Have a look at the Raymarine web site under customer support.
They have a really useful Q&A section. They promise to answer any question within 48hrs
Have found them extremely helpful on retired products like yours

Just a happy customer

The old 4000 has a dedicated wind vane that was usually fixed to the push pit, it simply referenced the auto helm to the apparent wind there was no read out as with a conventional wind system and I am fairly sure that it will not talk to sea talk or NMEA instruments. The wind vane was connected to the control box by plug. The system is quite old now and has been upgraded twice so I doubt that their is much support for it but some are about seconhand although the wheel drive was not particularly good and was much improved with the later models, the control box was replaced with the 6000 head I think which did have sea talk and NMEA compatability.
