Having a couple of "dead" older type cylindrical control units I have no enthusiasm for having repairs done to these. Raymarine have an upgrade control/head unit to go with the motor I have but at 300+ pounds. Been offered a AH4000 control head (looks just like the AH3000 later model-square box and buttons). Question is will the AH4000 control box operate the AH3000 drive motor. I appreciate the 4000 box has only one plug for power in and power out to the motor but this should just be a bit of rewiring. Any experience of this out there?

if your AH3000 is the analogue system (cylindrical brain) then the drive motors have a 4 part cable and are incompatible with later digital systems, I have just part exchanged my old Analogue 300o for a new ST3000 and £400 - the new brain and motor are much better - but hurry cause they will be discontinuing the 3000 at the end of this year, and the 4000 will be th entry level.

I'd imagine it would drive the AH3000 motor OK (though it might need some rewiring), but the ST4000 control unit doesn't have an integral fluxgate compass, so you'd need to fit one of those as well. Maybe worth a call to Raymarine?

Sorry to hear that 3000 will be discontinued Talbot.
My wheel is on a bulkhead and no room to fit ST4000 motor
when 3000 eventually dies. Mind you I'm on my second one
and they last a long time.
Will have to cut a hole in bulkhead to fit 4000!!!!!!!!

Can't remember which is which but I had the old cylinder one and then replaced it with the new triangular box 3000 ? The compass is not oiled damped so the course is more eratic; if anything a waste of money. It seems to be the motion that upsets the new style compass, so a backward step ...

seems the answer (courtesy of Raymarine) is that the AH4000 control head is compatible with the AH3000 drive motor with a bit of re-arrangement of the external wiring - only thing is I missed the sale of the head I was offered whilst pondering about this. Still there will be another but usefull to hear that the ST3000 is to be discontinued soon.
