Autohelm 1000 remote control unit?

I have inherited a Autohelm 1000 with my new boat but I have got no instructions or know if it works.
I have managed to find good Instructions via Google but there is no mention of a little cream coloured box that comes with it which has from memory some kind of switch on top & I guess is some kind of remote control unit to input data but how do you operate it & what does it do?
 
You say "good instructions" but the original manuals are all available under "retired autopilots" on the Raymarine website.

Except that the website does not appear to be co-operating at the moment.

Instructions for any accessories should also be there but what you describe does not ring any bells with me although some versions certainly did have remote control units available but with buttons duplicating the control panel on the autopilot itself.

Does your little cream coloured box look like a genuine Raymarine/Autohelm piece of equipment or something 3rd party or homemade

I thought the same; maybe it's an interface unit to allow GPS etc to talk to the AP ?
 
Googling autohelm remote control, (my links don't work), brings up a home-brewed device, actually for a Navico tillerpilot, that looks somewhat like your description, ie; a small box with push switches on the top.
Mods. to tillerpilot are also outlined.
Could yours be along those lines

I just googled Autohelm 1000 Vic & the first response was an official download of the manuals that I collared.I know not from which site,I did'nt bother to check.

The box in question I am pretty certain is an official Autohelm accessory.It has a transfer proclaiming Autohelm 1000 on the top,if not for that I would not know that my unit is a '1000' because it does not mention that on the main unit itself only "Autohelm."
It's a little box about 3" by 2" (I have not discovered how you type a 'times' sign on my computer though I'm sure it's there somewhere) by about 1" thick.
It is very neat as is the whole set-up & connects to the main unit by a wire with a plug on the end of the sort you see on the older headphones or amplifiers.It plugs into the main unit at the mounting end on a side at the bottom where there is a socket protected by a rubber bug...all very neat.
On the top from memory there is a little chrome type switch of the variety that does not make a connection more like a sort of joice stick which you move left or right.I think though I'm not certain about this but there could be a black press but not click switch behind that (if you get my drift) giving the whole impression of something that just inputs data.Rather like one of those X box/computer games controllers.I hope this helps.

I don't think so.I've looked at similar Autohelms on Youtube & mines not the one with lots of buttons,just the compass thing on the actuator type end & a dial selecting off/calm/rough & vane etc at the other.

Ah so yours is the old Nautech Autohelm 1000 analogue model....... like mine.

The only accessory that I am aware of is the wind vane, which I dont have,
that plugs into a jack socket on the side and also has a length of string that that provides feed back.

The remote control was first offered on the "1000 Micro" model which replaced the original analogue one.

Sorry cannot help :(

If the thing unplugs unplug it and se if the AH operates correctly. Plug it in see if it still operates and experiment to see what the littel box of tricks does


BTW the multiplication sign × is in the "character map " and can be done with alt+0215, but a letter x usually does the job
