Auto helm

Had a nice sail this Sunday under auto hem until my boat turned hard to port. Fine in stanby mode as i can adjust as i wish, but as soon as i select Auto i get turned hard to port. Any Ideas ?

The action may be reversed. You either move the helm to the opposite side or switch it over on the control box.

You dont say what model. There have been many over the last 30 or so years!

[/ QUOTE ] You said Autohelm, they were made by Nautech originally but now by Raymarine. Simrads were originally Navico IIRC. Chuck it away and get an Raymarine Autohelm ST1000.

Only experienced a Navico once. Filled up with water in the rain and never worked again. My Autohelm 1000 still going after best part of 30 years.

Seriously Simrad do appear to have a support section with manuals available There may be one for your unit

We had similar happen with our Tillerpilot and HWMBO later took it apart and cleaned the contacts under the buttons. Basically he had found that water had crept in and shorted the contacts, effectively giving a constant command.
Since then it has performed faultlessly.

This happened on an ST3000 wheel pilot when we first fitted it. It was returned to Autohelm, and the fault was that one of the 3 wires from the fluxgate compass had broken.

Open it up and have a look.
