used the autohelm yesterday when the unit started crunching and appeared to lock up. I have dismantaled the unit and the three small plastic gears within the motor assembly appear OK as does the centre cog of the motor. If i was to observe this part whilst disasembled and alter the control a few degrees, would the centre cog rotate, as it seems as though the unit has has no 12 volt getting to it, of course I have loaned out the Voltmeter.

Any advice I can not find the manual.

Thanks.

The service manual is also around online, e.g. here (pdf) .

I've had mine in bits, but can't remember the gory details. The control only supplies 12V when it wants the motor to turn - you can run the motor directly off a 12v supply without needing the control head if you wish.

IIRC, the small 'planet' gears have a boss on one end, so need to be fitted the right way around (boss against the mylar(?) washer inside the red 'annulus'? I think.)
