I’m just about to install one in my engine bay and was wondering does anyone have any tips for a good install? Does it matter which way up the unit is installed? Should the unit be at the side or above the engine? I guess it’s needs a spot with a good spread across the entire engine. Helpfully the unit in question did not arrive with any installation instructions!

Thanks

Your insurance company will have a set of criteria on what they want for an engine room extinguisher. Failing to meet this would invalidate a claim. Try Fireguard on 01425 616 139 - great people, helpful, and good prices. (No commercial connection etc)

Some years ago I had an Auto fire extinguisher go off in my engine room for no reason.

On my new boat I will be fitting 2 remote operated CO2 fire extinguisher with a smoke detector and a viewing port.

This will allow me to shut down the engine and close air and fuel inlets before setting off the fire extinguisher without having to open the engine room to check if fire is out.
