Auto engine mounts

Any reason why these cant be used on a yacht, Thanks.

Good morning:

I needed one new motor mount for my Volvo 7B2 engine in Girne years ago and discovered that Volvo wanted £40.00 for one but as funds were tight I found new Renault motor mounts for £5 so purchased four to ensure that the flexibility of all mounts would be equal.

I used these mounts for many years until changing the engine years later without any noticeable problems.

I think you will find that most marina motors are marinized engines produced by auto makers i.e. my Vetus was originally a Mitsubishi

Despite being based on engines used in non boat applications marine engines usually have dedicated mounting brackets to use mounts that are bolted to beds and have vertical posts on which the engine sits. Unlikely that automotive mounts will be that configuration.

Also consider that most small boat configurations apply thrust through the mounts to move the boat for/aft as well as the torque (twisting motion) that a vehicle/stationary engine experiences..

My first experience of an inboard boat (clinker open boat, Moggy thousand A series, car gbox, sitting on bearers at that point)- going ahead, it caught a rope, prop, shaft, engine stopped, boat didn't- engine pulled back six inches....

Worth a try though!

At this point I recommend these guys- http://www.avindustrialproducts.co.uk/

mounts £17 each, no connection etc..

I think that marine mounts also allow for inversion, allowing the engine to be upside down without falling out.

Check if they need to be different damping side to side or front to rear.
My 3YM30 mounts are 75 rear and 100 front.

I use Polyflex mounts from Australia, 50% of Yanmar cost.
