August YM, What d\'ya think?

Been away on hols as you do and picked up some mags for when the weather set in, as it does! Got the usual, MBM, MBY etc, and saw the front cover of YM. Their feature article for August is when the yachtie and the motor cruiser swopped boats. Thought it looked interesting so grabbed a copy.

What a really good article, why hasn't any of the mags thought of this before? Not only was it amusing it was informative and confirmed the way I think yachties think. Basically they don't! (I didn't say that)

I want to congraulate YM aswell, they tried their hardest to put accross an equal sided argument, although in places it sounded anti-motor cruiser I got the strong impression at the end that the motor cruiser was favoured.

Anybody else read it, what d'ya think?

Yes I bought it as well only because there had been the twin article in MBY and I was interested in the slant Yachting would put on it. There was some feedback via this forum that intimated that the Yachty mag had rubished the Motor cruiser but that was not my opinion after reading it.

The Yachting Mag also had an interesting peice on Purbeck anchorages.

Ummm, I was on of those unconvinced that it was reasonable, but I was only speed reading it in Smiths. Maybe I was a tad harsh in the light of these comments, but I did feel it had a slightly anti motor boat slant and also reading it and comparing it to the MBM article I did omit the various bits that were anti yottie.

Was the Hols on the boat Suzanne and if so where did you go?

Re: Speed reading in Smiths

I have to say that I for one get really peed off by all the anoraks who stand in newsagents treating it as a library. Not only do they block up all the isles so you have to barge through to get the mag you want, many of them smell grotty as well. If they get a free read then why can't they spend the money they save on soap and have a good wash before they go out to the free library.

I'm gonna subscribe in future!

Re: Speed reading in Smiths

In my defence I must say that A. I get equally peed off especially in Smiths on Sat. B. I don't wear an anorak, C. I bath a lot and D. the shop was nearly deserted! Oh and finally I'd have brought the mag but for 2 things, I didn't have a balaclava and someone I know may have seen me buying a Yacht mag and I've V*&v" engines in my boat and can't possibly afford things like mags when I have engine spares to buy! ;-)

Hi! Suzanne, welcome back! Hope you're suitably suntanned? All over? Right I read it, was suitably impressed, but the mpotor boaties are dyed in the wool! As a lot are and none the worse for it. But at least I think it was un-biased and informative. I'm lucky, been both and still love a good blast in a nice boat! But love my sailing aswell. Sitting on the fence again, oh dear! As far as i'm concerned we can all live together and there's pilllocks in both camps, I think we should all gang up on racing folk! tee hee.

My holiday was great thanks, went around the Channel Islands on the boat for 2 weeks. Would have been perfect apart from stopping in France twice (I b****y hate France). There was some hairy scary moments and my mother screaming "We're gonna die, i must take a photo" but save that for another time. Dad's been playing with digital photos and should be available for viewing soon.

As for my demands just ask Paulineb's son Sam about them! :)
