Please can you describe a little more about the surround terrain, in particular are there any over hanging trees suitable for attaching a few mooring lines to or any classic Tall ships sharing the anchorage?

'Fraid not Daka. The trees have all been cut down so that those sitting at the bar can have a better view of people making a complete pig's ear of anchoring and mooring. I'm sure you'd approve of that. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And the classic yachts have been warned not to come to this area as there are mad motorboaters who moor up to them!

Likely to be the best suggestion of this scenario. One I hadn't thought of and which will definitely make the page.

If low water was in "about an hour" when they anchored, and since then they have got ashore, found a restaurant, ordered a meal, eaten the starter, eaten the main, started on the sweet, and have gone back out to the boat, I reckon the tide is probably already rising. So if the boat isn't already aground, there is no need to panic.

Send someone ashore to buy a hacksaw and several spare blades. When the tide has risen enough for you to safely put the boat over the rocks, use the new hacksaw to cut the chain as close to the anchor as you can.
