How about a Marine Industry Insider's forum? All those web peeps in marine industry, marketing ddpt etc and few if any post here. It would hav to be moderated so raggies can't say "yuck" to sunseekr posts and same for stinkpotters. Maybe the contributors could mod their own threads. Either way, t'wd be good to see more experty/industry stuff here, and they'd get free exposure. Best on sepret forum i think, where yor (my) ah but my xyz from yor lot is knacked so i bet the new model is junk-type post not allowed.

I did this in my industry (audio). Registered on a couple of sites, got permission, promised no sell, sell, sell type posts etc. It was quite well received and a few congratulations for stepping up to the wicket etc but I then found out how time consuming it all was. Having to make sure I answered queries, doing the research and so on., You have to be prepared for commitment or have an under-employed marketing guy! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I am about to start marketing a new anchor system and this seems like a splendid way to reach a captive market. Any yachtsman would be cock-a-hoop to learn about a super new anchor and it's relative performance vis-a-vis other systems.
I know that most yachtsmen are at a loss when it comes to choosing an anchor and my new system would solve all their problems.
I'm not so sure about offering free advice, but I could probably blag that.
I'm all for it.

are you sure? They usually meet with more derision than real interest.... I thought there wasn't a better anchor than a Rocna, or was it a fortress or a CQR or maybe a Danforth......??? /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I sent a pm to someone the other day on a business issue and it occurred to me that there must be lots of people on here that could help each other but its finding them. Perhaps rather than a forum which should probably be the role of the BMF it would be useful to have a directory of who is in business and is open to being contacted. We could then approach the appropriate people. I often want to talk to people from say IT or Print industry not always the marine industry. Not sure that everyone wants to have a discussion in an open forum that can be viewed by competitors.

I am on networking sites such as Linked in and Xing but find they are too wide in their appeal.

Given the current climate I think it would be good for business and good PR for IPC.

I am developing a new tongue in cheek applicator that gives maximum thrust with minimum tongue strain.

There are an awful lot of industry folk on here already but most do not want to go public, many more view them on a daily basis.

At LBS and SBS I often get industry folk come up to the stand and discuss a specific question etc they have seen on here.

I agree, but there are a lot of people that do as they put their business in their signature as I do. Maybe those people would like to be able to be identified more easliy. Just a thought, its your forum. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Would be very useful when folk want advice on the best type of pump, say for this or that, or just whats available.

You are on to a winner. Anchors (humour aside) are a never ending mystery to most folk who will believe anything.

I recall the "flying" anchor that was popular for a few years in Sweden. It was designed like a paravane. The idea was to tie up to a rocky island bows on (very popular here). Then "launch" the anchor from the stern where it was supposed to glide out to sea on a gentle path to be used as a stern anchor. Yeah right. It usually got about three feet away unless it tilted and flew under the boat.

A free idea for you (ex royalties of course) How about a waterproof laptop camera fastened to a normal anchor (laptop in the cockpit) so the set and holding can be observed from the cabin?
