Attempt to make More Money for RNLI Thwarted by M&S Scam.....

(and something of a "Consumer Alert")

Our Branch Box Secretary, my wife, the fair Gillian thought it a brilliant wheeze to make extra cash for the Institution by buying her Christmas Cards for 2007 from M&S at half price this week and donating the difference to funds.

Unfortunately, when she got them home she found the following announcement printed across the bottom of the back of every card:-

"Please return this card to your local M&S store by 31st January 2007 for Free Re-Cycling"

If we send those out next year, our friends' suspicions that we are skinflints will be confirmed.

I am amazed you noticed. I certainly dont go round inspecting the backs of cards sent to me by people I only vaguely remember.
In a wild gesture of unfettled charity, I will offer to buy the surplus cards off you, so that you can continue to increase your brownie point total with Heaven by passing on the proceeds from your Wizard Wheeze to the RNLI.
Please dont bother actually sending them to me, but collect a few more brownie points at the M&S Free Recycling Area, where you will no doubt be rubbing shoulders with the great and the good in your area of your Middle England /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, I don't think you should be too bothered. I have friends who have been circulating the same birthday card for 26 years in a snoot at Hallmark and their ilk!!

Do you mean in addition to my yearly sweat shirt, offshore membership, charity auction of Fray Bentos pies, change from every pint in the box at my local, and this coming year to volunteer to answer the phones, as I will be moving to within a couple of miles of my local station?
Yes, a few extra quid bunged their way for time expired Xmas cards appeals to my sense of the absurd.

How about you, what tales will you regale them with?

Well done, you would crow too - you're a wonderful guy, hell of a bloke, a real swank but everybody hears that from you constantly as you put your change from every pint loudly into the box. Why do the phones need to be manned?

I make a charitable offer to perpetuate a charity, and you come in loudmouthing.
Your type of socail intercourse in to necessary or required.
Now go away and haunt someone else, or get your thyroid fixed, and come back and play nicely.

Yes, thank you for telling us that you are making a marvellous charitable offer to perpetuate yourself and belittle others. Your poor grammar, spelling et al is forgiven . One finger typing is tiresome isn't it. Why do the phones need to be manned? Come on there's a good chap, you stepped in so unless you're cornered, caught out, found wanting etc. please tell me why the phones need to be manned.

Gotcha! You're boxed in! Banged to rights! Another jersey wearer. Now be a good chap and apologise for telling porkies to beef yourself up and admit that you won't be manning any phones because you are not Lifeboat Operations Manager or a Deputy Launching Authority or Lifeboat Administration Do it silently don't throw your change in with gusto, slide the folders into the box and walk away.

Its worse than we thought. The poor chap is now suffering with hallucinations and paranoid delusion. Still what can you expect at his age?
Do you think anyone will bother to visit him in the home?
