Our 2004 Bav 44 lost its transom rubber again! This is the rubber moulding about 25mm x 25mm that covers the transom hull to deck join. The original one became detached about 4 years ago and because it was mouldy we decided to replace it. The rubber was attached with a stainless clamp and a silicone/sikaflex type sealant so the local boatyard who did the job used sikaflex.
That bumper became detached last year but was held onto the transom by the stainless clamp. The boat is on a swing mooring and the rubber and clamp recently went missing.
We have a replacement piece of rubber but I don't want to have to do the job again in 3 years so we need to find a permanent adhesive.
On both occasions the rubber has detached from the sealant. The sealant is still well attached to the GRP so I'm thinking we need to use an adhesive that permanently bonds to the rubber and to the mix of sealant and GRP that remains on the transom.
Anyone have any suggestions?
