evening all,
another odd Q from me

mine I think has ATF oil in it atm, is that right or should I use hydraulic oil (as used in hydraulic pumps/rams/etc on construction machinery - or in my case hydraulic stabs)?

I'm asking as paserelle is having a bit of a hard time lifting the new dinghy and wondering if a change of oil will help...

cheers

Over the winter while phaffing one W/E I noticed the hydraulic unit tank looking less than 1/2 full .
It powers the Passerelle and flaps and I think the single steering ram .
There’s no PAS pump on any engine .
There’s a 24 v motor on top some valves etc ,these all sit on the transparent tank .
Whole lot is under a bunk next to the transom.

So I went to my yard who have an engineering shop which sell to the public and asking the very same Q .
Plane W 30 oil was the ans .

I did reiterate it’s was not for the gear box’s ( twin disc ) ,but they were sure it was the right stuff .
I did mention the two options you put Fwds , but nope .

Real cheap about €5 / L and you bring your own empty and they fill it from a massive trade 60 gallon drum .

I think my tank holds about 10 L so I put about 3/4 in to what was already in .
It did look the same through the transparent sides - reassuringly.

It’s now about 7/80 % full - some room for any returns ?

I was gonna post a thread at the time Nov , but the boat was effectively winterised and going nowhere to test .
However some 45 hrs later it’s working uneventfully .

So I will be following this thread with interest . .

Our Passerelle has a 160 kg SWL badge on the side we too use it as a tender crane .I can’t see the combined Kg of tender / OB exceeds 80 Kg .

thanks Porto,

did some searching and came up with Besenzoni (sp?) instructions on their paserelles. They mention viscosity 46.
Went to the oil shop where I bought a 20lt container for the stabs and asked. So,

ATF is approx 10W
ISO32 (not 30!) that I bought for the stabs is similar slightly thicker (if so)
ISO46 is equivalent to 15-17W
thicker one 58 or something is 20W

He explained that on occasions they've put even 100W on construction machinery that originally wanted 46 (<20W!) and it worked...
So bought a 4lt 46 oil and unless I find the pump specs online and see it can accept thicker I'll use that. ALMAR (the paserelle builder from Austria) don't mention anything online.

Vas, i was advised that any oil will work in the passerel,
46 viscosity is standard hydraulic oil.
Perhaps you can adjust the overpressure valve half a turn..?

thanks Bart,

looks like my pump is by Hydronit, their literature again mentions viscosity 46, so I'll change oil tomorrow morning.

I could change the overpressure valve if I can find it, no idea how it looks like, and it may be in the space between the tank and pump (they are bolted together) and I'm not getting into that now.
