Too much time holding a sander while the mind wanders takes me to the "Really Useless Chandlers" and their special offers for this season.

Pre-Mixed two part epoxy paint.

The Inflatable Anchor.

A Storm Proof Helmsman´s Umbrella.

Green Batteries for the Starboard Light.

Any more ?

I read about a guy think was named Caldwell who made an anchor from wood and only then realised it was difficult to sink.
The book says he cut a slab of lead off his keel, smashed it flat with a big hammer to then wrap it around the wood, and it worked fine thereafter.
Maybe the inflatable ones above can also take lead shot?

Desperate Voyage - a wonderful book. The description of his first sail, where he manages to fall overboard holding the anchor and then run aground before even leaving harbour has me laughing aloud every time!

Same same.
I fell over laughing after reading about how he caught that giant shark bigger than his yacht, and once it appeared to die, him hauling it aboard so it's head slipped down into the cabin.
He crawled through the forehatch and picked up his big hammer to give it a whack and make sure it was dead ......... and doing so woke it up.
Took two weeks to rebuild the cabin top with ply, fix up the damage to the aft cabin, and put back up the mizzen it knocked down...........

Thinking about it ....... he's possibly my sailing hero ...........and not one RYA exam taken let alone passed.
