At least somebody is selling boats

Actually, I also read your "owner decides" statement as probably jfm did - i.e. it's the seller who drives the deal, and that's indeed from another planet these days.
Sure, if you mean that it's up to the owner to accept the offer or not, that is always true.
But have you ever heard in your experience of a 62' owner accepting almost 500k€ (yes, h-a-l-f-a-m-i-l-l-i-o-n) less than the initial asking price?
That's a pretty recent, real life case I'm aware of.
Sure, the asking price was over the top. And of course he expected to get less than that.
But I wouldn't say that he was the one who decided at the end.
I'd rather say that he accepted, and he surely wasn't a happy bunny.

Crikey jfm. You'll be paying UK corporation tax on the proceeds before you know where you are. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

ah ok Mapis how you say it I understand, but the selling price is dicated by a bit of both, if the sellers drive the prices I would sell three times more boats
if the owner is desperate to sell he will give you a big hug for that.... if he is not he will tell you to bugger off and wait for a better buyer
this happens in many cases but in the last 6 months I have seen some impressive deals being done

yesterday I was aware of these super discounted sales in the Med

Fairline 50 Phantom 2003 - asking 450k sold 250k
Mochi 51 Dolphin 2005 - asking 750k sold 550k
Sunseeker 75 Predator 2001 - asking 1.1 mill sold 600k
Azimut 115 2004 - asking 7.5 mill sold 5.5 mill

By a strange twist of logic, as a potential buyer I'm put off by these figures. It is great that deals are there to be had, but I can't tell what is a good deal and what isn't. After buying my bargain I might discover I've actually bought a big slug of depreciation after all. My view on the 'cost' of a boat isn't the capital outlay, it is the cost of money plus depreciation. As the cost of money is getting lower, if I can buy a boat that won't be panned on depreciation then the overall cost might not be too bad, even if the initial outlay appears high.

Example: Inwards have a Predator 56, 2003, asking £395k. Taking the Phantom 50 above as an example, is the Predator a deal at £250k? Or with 2 cabins in 56ft which can't be that popular, is £225k an offer worth trying?

Another way of asking the question... if you can afford to spend £250k, what level of asking price is within reach?

Any price,

they can only say no, but they might say yes,

you can always bid up. but you can never bid down! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK,

I know of 2 Princess 440 (Late run 1996's) which were both clean which sold for just under £140k....which I thought was a great price. However now having looked around at the 15m flybridge market they seem to be dropping like stones! Definite deals to be had an early 2000 model boats from all manufacturers.....even heard of a Princess V52 going for Euro 200......and the owner threw in free berthing for a year!

Cheers

Ancasta have maintained that sales have been good due to the eurs buyers taking advantage of the ailing pound I guess.

So quite the opposite for yours truly then :~(

Not challenging whether that's right or wrong, but what makes you reach that conclusion?

That is what I was told by the broker who sold my last boat, they were being kept going by buyers with Euro's

I have been making enquiries of quite a few boats and it is the brokers telling me this. ( I am looking for a South Med Liveaboard £100-220k)

That where a sale is needed in that segment that value is everything. Brokers have been UK and Spain based. I was told that newer current models still in high demand though.

Brokers were very aware of which boats had to be sold and which were not available at anything other than the price the owner wanted. Every one seems very aware in the current market. The key brands I was looking at were Princess, Fairline, Sealine and Cranchi.

Interestingly over 50% of brokers felt that the current 'Fire sale' of boats needed to be sold would be done by early 2009...and that real bargains would then get harder to find. They reckon the market will shore up in 2009 once the desperate sellers are gone and that while the value of most 2nd hand craft will have suffered compared to 2007, that it will not be as bad as everyone is saying..

Cheers

Hi
I was looking for a used Bavaria 27 sport motorboat and noticed on the web that Clipper marine are selling new Bavaria Motorboats, I thought they were agents for the sailboats.
Are Ancasta in trouble, as I was going to buy one from them, but not sure if my money will be safe, They seems to be panic selling there stock boats with big discounts.
can anybody advise me what to do.

Good info thanks Nautorius, sounds like the way to go is to start talking to brokers, cos I'm not seeing boats advertised at lower prices...

I believe that Ancasta are joint dealers with Clipper on the Bavaria motorboats. I would also guess that given the change in the Pound : Euro rate they are likely to be able to offer Sealines at similar or even lower prices than they could sell a Bavaria for these days. Given that Sealine are seen as a more Premium brand that Bavaria maybe you should see what they can offer you!

interesting times.

Doesnt say what split were sailing or Motor boats. we are dealing with Ancasta at the moment and they said October was busy for them selling more than last year! november and december seem to be quiet as people cant be bothered with christmas around the corner i guess.

theres lots of talk about the more expensive boats selling but anyone got any experience about some of the cheaper boats? say 80K to 150K??

ps. if anyone wants a nice SC29 /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Been several thread of recent following the claims by Ancasta that they sold 250 new and used boats in the last 4 months... Also interesting news that Clipper Marine have now been appointed Bavaria Motorboat dealers when Ancasta are already appointed dealers...another thread developing on Scuttlebutt on this subject. Can you seriously envisage Ancasta agreeing to be a joint dealer with Clipper Marine....not wishing to stir things up but all sounds very fishy to me...

How much and why you selling?

What engines? I'd love an SC29 over an S28 but i'm sceptical about the D series engines
