This little beauty has been great except that the SSD hard drive 16GB now to refuses read/write at all. It's been crashing a lot before this, leading to many re-installations. My latest incarnation was Ubuntu Netbook Remix, with which I hoped to avoid stress on the drive compared to XP as supplied as new.
Pity, as I had installed OpenCPN in Ubuntu NBR and had a 3G dongle working and WI-Fi and all the other extras too!
So is there anybody upgrading an Asus eeePC from even 8 or 16GB and would donate or sell the old SSD? I would spring for a much bigger drive, but I'm lacking confidence now in case there are other issues. The last time this happened I found some program to write 0's and 1 to the disk and this seemed to revive it.Cannot remember the name of this program, but maybe it is now too late and there are too many bad sectors(some were reported last time).
I'd love to get it working again as it was super, even doing TV well whilst abroad.

Good sailing and boating to all!

I'm using eebuntu on my ASUS eePC 900. One thing to remember is deleting previous updates of the kernel system. The updates come thick and fast, just like with windoze and previous versions are not deleted, just in case you want to restore.

I found I could get plenty more memory by inserting a 32 GB SD card for portability. The fast cards are still a bit expensive, so I have the usual external hard drive for back-ups too.

eebuntu have some helpful forums and wikis.

new SSD arrived despite volcanic ash!

The new Kingspec 32GB drive arrived a few days ago and mounted with no issues.
Huge, very huge, improvement in speed, very pleased so far, and got all the bells and whistles working gradually, USB 2 drivers etc. 3G dongle and bluetooth GPS for openCPN.
www.kingspec.com (bought on ebay. from Hong Kong)

Hope this helps others sometime.

Good sailing and boating to all.
