I have just come through the Crinan canal today, left Kip at 7.30 ish this morning, arrived Ardrishaig 9.30 paid my dues for assisted passage and was sitting in the Galley of Lorne with a pint at 4:30.
I had excellent service from the staff at Scottish Canals, I was single handed and felt the cost increase for assisted passage this year was a bargain.
Well worth it for me today.

Sounds good. Excuse my ignorance but what does assisted passage entail? Also what was the cost and for those timings from Kip, what type of boat are you in and what is your cruise speed?
Lastly, what's your itinerary now. Are you staying on that side of the Crinan?

I have been considering doing the 9 mile walk alongside the canal. However - just in case I am not fit enough ! - does anyone know of a company offering one day boat trips.?

LadyJ, assisted passage means the lock keepers catch your warps and operate the gates and sluices for you.
All you have to do is tend your warps on deck, the transit cost for me was £180.
The boat is a 2001 Princess 38, I will be at Dunstaffanage until the end of May then round to Ardfern until my annual 3 week cruising holiday in July.
Its around a 38 mile passage from Kip to Ardrishaig, so 2 hours at 20kts give or take.

Wonky, assisted passage was pulled a few years ago but is now back on, check the website http://www.scottishcanals.co.uk/our-canals/crinan-canal/boating
Or give them a call as I always do before leaving to make sure there are no issues with the canal operations.
Regards,
Barry
