Last year I replaced my thro hull fittings with CR ones.

This year one of the new ones shows pitting similar to an anode. The other 9 are perfect. All are marked CR.

Sent a photo to ASAP and they have sent me replacement fitting, ball valve, rt angle bend and tail FOC as I would never be able to split the Locktited fittings.

Now struggling to cut thro thread to preserve corroded outside bit for ASAP to investigate cause. ( I would usually grind off the outside flange)

Sod's law it would have to be the fitting that's the lowest and hard against a bulkhead. Got some of thread sawn through using a multi tool but blades not long enough to get to bottom part of thread 1.5" ball valve size! Probably going to be. slow work with a part hack saw blade but today will try method 2 and will try to undo inside nut with wide adjustable but access almost impossible and even then not sure I will be able to poke fitting out as the cured PU40 will probably be strong enough to hold the fitting in place.

Fitting is isolated ( not bonded) so like ASAP really would like to understand the cause.

Open to ideas for removal! Are there longer multi tool blades available anywhere?

Heat easily breaks Locktite down-you could have used a heat gun with success.

Interesting to hear the result of the investigation.

Please keep the forum posted.

Good Luck.

Thanks that might make the parts retrievable after I get them out.

When I originally replaced them I fitted the thro hull fitting first then found it was so tight to the bulkhead that I could not turn the ball valve to screw it on!

Had to fit the thro hull fitting loose and hold it at an angle to give enough clearance to screw on ball valve (with handle removed) on first then I could orientate it and tighten thro hull fitting to the hull!

Just could not believe that Jeanneau would fit the thro hull valves etc immediately the hull was finished and before the bulkheads and interior were assembled.

Yesterday discovered Goose neck is compressed (been dropped?) and sheave for reefing is seized - one step forwards and two back at present. SS pin for sheaves appears seized into the aluminium gooseneck possibly with corrosion (SS to Aluminium). Think its going to be a gooseneck off and take it to a machine shop!!

To remove mine I used the Dremmel up the pipe method from outside. just keep cutting a slot with a small cutting disc and eventually the outside flange will drop off with no damage at all. You just have to aim your cut inside the flange but below the nut on the inside.

Great idea - thanks for that!

Tried to post photo from Dropbox but all I get is a subscription notice to increase my storage capacity! Will try again when I have more time to sort.

I wouldn't say 10 out of 10. It should have been right in the first place. Replacing without quibble is good though so maybe 9.5.

Not a fair comment IMHO.

All suppliers sell products they obtain. If they are proved faulty they are under an obligation to replace them.

At present all ASAP have seen is a photo of an alleged faulty thro hull fitting allegedly bought by me 15months ago and allegedly fitted to my boat. I know the truth but ASAP on trust having seen the photo provided new thro hull fitting, new ball valve, new rt angle bend and new tail.

In conversation they have asked for the old thro hull fitting back to examine it but I warned them that its in a difficult position and the usual way of replacement is to grind off the (corroded) outside flange.

ASAP accepted that I may need to effectively destroy the evidence in removing the thro hull fitting but still provided new parts FOC. I would add that the other 9 new fittings appear perfect.

As far as ASAP know I may also have done something wrong or exposed the fitting to some aggressive liquid.

Obviously I feel that I have done things correctly and would like to know what ASAP can discover.

Due to ASAP attitude and immediate response to my complaint I think its worth 10 out of 10.

ASAP have provided a prepaid envelope to return the faulty component back if I can get it out in one piece.

The fitting is a 1.5" unit right deep in the boat and hard up against the bulkhead.

I bought a Dremmel type tool but couldn't use it (will be visiting Cromwell Tools tomorrow!!). Another possible story!!

I managed in to use a multi tool for part and finally a mini hacksaw through the thro hull threaded part at great expense of my muscles and some skin as access is almost impossible (my fault for buying Jeanneau!) and removed the corroded flange intact.

I will clean it up (didn't delay this years application of antifoul) take a photo and return it to ASAP.

Everyone is good when things go right its how they react when there are problems that really show who are excellent IMHO.

I agree that when things go wrong, how a company deals with the problem can vastly enhance their reputation. My assessment referred to your overall experience. Asap have behaved very responsibly but I guess you would have preferred not to have had to replace it after only a year.
