my wife has a new car. Now she won't let me put my dirty boaty stuff in the back. Do you know of a tough, rubbery? sheet which I could keep rolled up in the back and unroll to protect the pristine boot when I need to carry my bits and pieces ?
Thanks, Ken?

The car accessory places have ones that fit either specific models or small medium large simpler ones. They also do heavy duty rubber sheet ones that can be cut to fit. Our Honda can even have an optional plastic moulded tray, but as it takes up space itself we have the ribbed rubber cut sheet permanently in place, keeps the spilled paints and golf course mud off the carpets. Daft really, we buy a new car every 3 years and immediately cover the carpets and the boot so the next owner has them nice and clean, all we see is black rubber!

What is even more stupid is that I bought special fitted carpet mats as an option with the new car, then covered THEM up with rubber mats to keep the boatyard etc crap off them - maybe I should get some snazzy carpet ones to go on top of the rubber ones....

ah but tank covers allow you to attach tank bags for carrying yer anti-scumsucking theft devices, packed lunch etc, so therefore have some value to add to the comfort required on those days when you aren't getting yer knee down.

Totally agree the "Daft" point Robin. Not seat covers or anything in the car, no rubber mats. For the same reason we dont have overcarpets on the boat either. If anyone's gonna trash our carpets, it will be us, not the next owner :-)

Also when you trade in a car it's not like they give you £500 extra becuase the boot or the carpets are nice and clean

Aaah . . . but this is the first nice one since the kids. And it is to last 10 years -( if we do ?). So she wants to keep it smart.
Thanks for the answers - will follow them up.

call me a cheapskate but
a) I've generally get a new car about every year or so (I get a discount :-) ) and the trade in price reflects the market, milelage and perhaps a little bit of the general condition, but not how clean the boot is!
b) As I've almost always got cr*p in the boot I tend to keep a bit of cheap and cheerful cardboard on the floor of the boot. IKEA furniture boxes tend to be excellent once unfolded, and buying the box with the furniture inside it will still be cheaper than a tailor made rubber mat!

as i read this, she's got the car and you've got the boat but you need the car to get to the boat and you'll only get the car to go to the boat when she's not using the car unless both of you want to go to the boat at the same time but the chances of both of you wanting to do the same thing at the same time might be remote so you have to find another reason for going to the boat in the car which will be attractive to herself .. such as a car wash?

Know a guy who traded in a 760 , 3 yrs old, not knackered for another new one. depreciation. new 70k, trade in 15k.
You need a substantial income to write that off against the tax!

You mean you didnt think of this problem when you gave her permission to buy a car ? You ought to have known she would treat it like some sort of "nest". Anyway, the answers simple. Dont allow her to use the car. Women arent really equipped to handle that sort of responsibility anyway! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

My old Volvo 940 has immaculate carpet in the boot. I cut a template out of a piece of old carpet, and then cut another as well and put both one on top of another in the boot. Now I don't woory about what goes in there. I do, however, put my British Seagull ( "the best outboard motor for the World") inside an old outer cover off a flexible water tank as an added precaution. I would not spend money on fancy bits of plastic liner! Paul
