Just seen on Twitter a beautiful 20 something wooden launch moored at Twickenham (just above Eel Pie on right) was stolen and set alight on Tuesday morning.

Presumably this boat

Twickenham resident calls for witnesses of rare boat stolen for joy ride on Thames and set on fire

Not a nice story at all. Wasn't there a similar thing a while ago with the boat ending up in Teddington lock?

That’s the one. Very sad indeed.

The fire in Tedd lock a while back was not arson.

Unbelievably it caught fire on its mooring (possibly electrics but no one will ever know) burnt through its ropes, headed downstream and somehow drifted up into the barge lock where it sank.

It also took a small Shetland with it that sank in the other lock !

A small cruiser at Broom Park was stolen a couple of weeks ago. It hadn't moved for years so the thief got it started by stealing a switch from another boat and a can of fresh fuel. It turned up, abandoned at Teddington Lock with two outboards inside and stinking of spilt fuel. The owner called the Police, but they said they couldn't do anything as no one had reported a missing outboard.
