If the weather is as favourable as the forecast currently suggests, we're thinking about heading to SPP on Guernsey on Friday afternoon. Leaving Brighton at 1300 would put us into St Peter Port at about 1800. Are we likely to get a berth arriving this late on a Friday afternoon in August? Or is this a silly idea altogether?

Cheers

One can never say for certain, but if the weather is settled, there is regular movement and they will squeeze you all in with a shoe horn. I have found on the last 2 years that SPP is suprisingly available with the frenchies staying south.
And now they have introduced rediculous elec charges of £2. a night......what a rip off

grrr.. was thinking of a 5 day tour to CIs this w/e too, but now got to be back at work Monday due to some skivers, so it 'll have to be another time.
If you go, have fun !

You wont be turned away, but may end up rafting on the pontoons in the harbour, rather than being in the marina. You can't walk ashore then, but that's no big deal, inflate the tender and away you go. I prefer to be in the harbour, as you can take the boat out at any time for a whizz round the coast or to one of the other islands.

Getting a marina berth with also be dependent on the state of tide over the sills. I'm sure they will accommodate you perhaps rafted in the pool if the marinas are full or the tide is low. We stayed in Victoria Marina (the central sill entrance looking from the Pool), £27 per night inc electricity which we though was good value, also diesel in the pool at 52p per ltr.
You could also try Beaucette Marina (very pretty) but away from central SPP so no shops! This is also tidal with a very narrow entrance and best approached at high tide for the first time in!!

Great place to explore, you'll both love it.

Go for it! I would say its been less busy this year - having said that weather is looking good this w/e so likely be busy. At 1800 the Victoria will only have been open a very short while and there is usually a few departures. Expect lots of activity and expect to be rafted.

Worst case is you will be in the pool on the pontoons - but weather should be settled and the water taxi is running if you don't want to dinghy.

Good luck and have a great weekend.
