Was moving the sprayhood out of the car yesterday (cold and frosty!) morning when the plastic window cracked! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

Apart from getting a new window fitted (which my sailmaker is unlikely to recommend, as the hood is patches holding other patches together), is there a reasonably effective repair which I can do. (just to make the damn thing last one more season!)??

Thanks

I repaired a Suzuki Jeeps soft top windows with a tape like this ; clear, UV resistant and sticks well if you clean the plastic first. I stuck it both sides. It looks good for a while until the edges whiten as the weather gets a hold.

sorry to hear that
i removed mine yesterday carefully folding so as not to bend the windows.
my windows are "stratoglas" its much thicker than whatever the normal stuff is + doesnt go opaque /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

it is expensive /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Simple, cheap and effective. Buy enough window fabric for the job, it's cheap and easily available.

With the old window still in situ, sew the new window fabric over the old, this will give you accurate placement and sizing. Cut out the old window afterwards. This is a common method for the sailmakers.

A domestic sewing machine will be able to accommodate this with no problems - use a Jeans needle.

Fabric and threads available from Kayospruce, Point North and many others.

Half hour job, maximum !!
