Around the Island (IOW) passage planning

I am looking for an online guide for planning a trip around the Island. A nice simplified non-stop passage plan to meet the tidal gates.

The boat is in Portsmouth, but we are looking to start anywhere appropriate

I assume you are going round anticlockwise

Look at your tidal stream atlas ( or http://www.visitmyharbour.com/harbours/solent/solent/charts.asp?cattype=5 ) and plan your departure to catch the last of the ebb down the Needles channel. The further west you start the easier it will be to get the timing right at the Needles.

You then have approx 7 hours of fair tide to get round the south of the Island to Bembridge Ledge and then the start of the next ebb to take you to Portsmouth

Ideally I would leave Portsmouth about 2.5 hours before high water to be at Bembridge Ledge about 1.5 hours before just as the stream turns west. You then have 6 hours of fair tide to get to the Needles and hopefully catch the first of the next flood up to Yarmouth, Lymington or Keyhaven, or push on with the tide to Cowes, Beaulieu or home. Alternatives are to nip across to Bembridge on one tide and leave on the next. It it's a summer weekend don't count on getting into Yarmouth late in the afternoon or evening it might be full! Bit of a pain but those who do the most sailing don't get the berths in the Solent.
Don't know about online passage planners. Look at the tide tables and weater forecast.
