returning to this board after along abscence but I have a sad reason for posting now.

I finally got my Lugger on a mooring in Poole again. However the summer's (?) sailing has just been severely curtailed as some unknown person or thing managed to smash a hole in the side near the stern since I was last down. They have also broken the mizzen mast and damaged the deck around the mizzen mast step and rudder casing. All in all not very nice. What really gets me going is that I can understand accidents happening but not leaving a note about it with contact details is not nice in the least.

Anyway, on the practical side can anyone reccomend a good shipright/carpenter in the Poole area as the damage is beyond my abilities to repair?

Thanks in advance.

Nice to see you back Roger...

but under these circumstances it's hardly a pleasure for you.

Isn't it worth getting your insurer to pay for this? The NCD on marine insurance is usually only 5% pa so you won't be using much and will have the repairer to come back on if things aren't done to your satisfaction.

When we had a swinging mooring in Poole, two boats ago, we had a similar occurrance but the damage was done to the bow on one side. Sandbanks yacht Co did the repair work, cutting out and replacing a part of the hull and shaping & scarfing in a new section of teak rubbing strake, finally matching the brown gelcoat on the sheerline EXACTLY. The job was perfect. They even left the finish inside the anchor locker BETTER than the original builders standard. It was a perfect job and totally undetectable.

I don't know wether or not SYC are still in business (Seaton family) but that expertise must still be around Poole somewhere.
