What I mean is all this hoo-haa about wakes, planing motorboat v raggies etc. IMHO as far as wake goes, nothing compares to the Seacat.

I'm a sailor and appreciate all like minded souls who enjoy themselves on the water, irrespective of what craft.

As a an ex dinghy sailor I miss the speed. Let me have a go on your jet ski! Or failing that a Fairy Huntress will do nicely!

If you all carry on promoting the "zoning" idea, you'll end up having to pay to go out in the Solent. Bit like congestion charging.

well said
,sick to death of all this moanig, before long we'll have RYA police, just enjoy the water and smile
freedom can somtimes constrain you?

Totally agree... being on the water in whatever craft is supposed ot be a "getting away from it" passtime... If all users can't offer consideration to other users.... it is a poor show.

I have seen raggies cut up raggies... stinkies cut up stinkies and a mixture of the two... but if people just show more consideration to all users on the water and not be so arrogant... we will be able to continue our passtime in peace.

FWIW - i am a stinkie owner... and enjoy it.... but most of my mates are raggies... and they enjoy that too...

To be honest I don't give a stuff what type of boat you have! I don't even care if you have a boat! We are all boaters, I think we should do away with stinkies and raggies and ragpotters and change the name to boaters, plain and simple!!

I used to wear one of them. What about sailors?

To be more serious, the more I see, the more it seems that the lack of consideration often mentioned is more to do with inexperince than what sort of boat you have. I am not in favour of regulation but one has to face it - a maritime driving licence is probaly the only way to make sure people have a bit of knowledge before venturing forth on the ocean.

Because sailors, has conotations of saling! Just wanted to simplify things, now we will have a discussion on what to call ourselves and it starts all over again!!

Biggest wake..oO

Not sure about the Seacat, but I was in the Solent the other week when a huge container ship went out, usually they don't kick up much wake, but this one was churning out a 5 ft wave...which was probably the biggest I've seen...

The Bar Fleur going out of Poole is creating big waves over the shoals recently, white crested things on the NW of Brownsea Island

Anyone else seen them?

good idea. Those who don't like it will have to round the Isle of Wight. It'll be like the round the Island race, only permanent.

Re: Inexperience

I wish you were right.

In 2000 I had to attend, as witness, in front of an examining magistrate over an incident where a dinghy was capsized and 3 sailboats and 2 power boats were gravely inconvenienced in the channel off the Pointe du Fier on the ile de Ré by a 12m powerboat, driven by a Frenchman and wearing a red ensign (an oft used ploy to avoid swingeing French taxation on big powerboats).

I believe the driver was fined and forbidden to be in charge of a boat for 18 months. The action was taken by the Gendamerie Maritime on the complaints from some shoreside onlookers.
The Douaniers then took a hand and the luckless owner found himself facing some really big tax fines - but then the French have no respect for personal liberties.

A \"boater\" is a hat

A boater is a hat
A pushpit isn't anything
A Sailor is what I am with or without an engine
And the aft rail I lean on is the taffrail

....sorry, my two favourite small minded "ever decreasing circles" type hates.

Re: Names

As I've said many times, "I don't care what you call me, as long as it's not early in the morning or late for dinner"
